well what irritates me the most is the fact that there are people on one habdwho are dying & selling of their organs , coz they cant buy food to eat people are suffering every moment of thier lives . then on the other hand we have people who are concerned about what they should wear for some goddman fucking shitass party . people commit suicide as they have debts worth lakhs pilling up & there are people who exploit these same people , why coz " Ireally want those solitaire diamonds " or " man that cartier pen is so sexy , I gotta hyave it "

Well I have been successful in avoiding being in any of the farewell pictures , not that its was tough .
Anyways getting back to serious matters , School's officialy long over ( hallelujah!) and an uncertain future beckons us . A few of us no what we are going to do , ex : rohit , tejas , savya , anurag p ( and a few others I am not aware about ) and most of you dont !!

One Helluva Navy Ball !!!!!!

This Navy Ball is one I WONT forget in a hurry!! For both obvious and also for not so obvious reasons( actually for reasons everyone doesn't know ;-)!)

I reached at 9:30 , hoping to miss the Navy Queen event, ( pretty sure its already "Fixed"), unfortunately I reached there a wee bit too early and was bored by some utter bunch of nincompoops . Well the thing finally got over at 10:30 , with the C-n-C getting a new "chic"!.
The Band there( a bunch of sidey people) played only half a dozen godd songs , like stupid cupid & Jailhouse rock. The came Suketu himself , playin a good load of awesome numbers, especially woh lamhe ( coz thats the only song i have heard , lol !)

Then from 11:30-0300 i got busy in some stuff & man the time passed so quickly!!. that was 1 time i wish i could pause time or atleast go slowly. Neways as all good things get over so did this . Came back home at 3 whilst seeing some heavily drunk & majorily dissoriented folks!!!

The Annual DAY ; feelin' nostalgic already

I know most of you people thought the programme sucked. I agree , everything except our show sucked :) lol ! and all u council members sure had a rough time , anyways speakin for the BAND , all those practice sessions , changing songs at the last moment !! , Ashwith running around to help fix the equipments ( actually it was he alone who took care of that !! ) and me not able to hear myself !! I am going to miss it! ( oh what the hell I mis it already! )
When it started it was only me and Vimal were going to play Imagine . Principal as usual intervened , but oddly I would like to thank her for that ! band increases from 2 -3 -5 - 8 !! would you imagine that !!
It was first Imagine , then Aicha joined ; someone had an extraordinary brainwave , suggested SOMEDAY - FLIPSYDE , we were not to sure , but Vimal's Leads proved otherwise beyond doubt . Then when we heard Ashwin & Abhinav Rapping ; thats it people " LET'S Play SOMEDAY !! " .
Then we came to mullah with the elecronic equipment playin bad , fortunately I had no problem wht my bass guitar .

We honestly pushed the limits , with Ashwin and Abhinav wearing Gangsta style clothes for their RAPS !! . Me with graphic design balck shirt , we really pushed the boundaries on this one ! weell you cant balme us , we were tryin not to put the audience to sleep !!!

Final day , Aicha out , the crowd favourite in ! Summer of '69 was ushered without any problems and the final day was awesome !!!! It was amazing , hey we did have a sell out crowd !! lol !!

The experience was amazing and Kudos to the sound enigeneers , we couldnt have done it without them .

<strong>Warning: the following is an essay on my opinion of our political system.
(By the way I happen to be an intensely patriotic INDIAN!)The country which boasts of being the world’s biggest democracy should actually be ashamed of its terrible political system. You may ask who says so; well I would easily have at least 1 billion people vouching for me.
It started as a dream, envisaged by our nation’s greatest freedom-fighters. But I am pretty sure that they must be writhing in pain in their graves.

Today’s politicians are not worried about the nation’s citizens; everyone knows that, except obviously when the elections are around the corner. Well I think the only thing politicians care about is mileage. I know that there are some spectacularly brilliant politicians wanting to change all this, unfortunately they are very few of them. It us up to us after all to change all this. But until I become “mature “enough to take up politics, I think I’ll do all my countrymen a favour by not voting! Yes we must have a zillion times that our vote matters, but I wonder how, when you have to choose between a bunch of incompetent morons.

Our Indian Political System has been quite aptly been nicknamed as “The Great Indian Tamasha” .The scenes inside the parliament could easily compete against WWE , excluding in razzmatazz , I wouldn’t be surprised if it grossed higher than WWE & TNA combined! Uma Bharti decides to quit , suddenly she realizes that if she quits she will loose her immunity, joins back again ,tells the media, “ I was only joking!”, after all its all a joke isn’t it!

I did have some respect for the Congress, after all , they helped us get independence. But of lately I’ve lost my trust in them to. The BJP I honestly don’t want to talk about them, a half-dead man at the threshold I wonder how can it ever help India progress!
Well Mr.Advani went to Pakistan and praised Mr. Jinnah. I agree it was uncalled for.
But the RSS & VHP can’t leave it at that, they go on harping about it for the whole month, as if India has no other antagonisms. They say Advani is too old , I wonder when they stopped celebrating their birthdays? . What I am mean to say is they themselves must be as old as Advani if not older.
Besides the RSS & VHP preach this jingalinga stuff called “Hindutva” , I always thought India was a sovereign nation??

What’s worse is that there are organizations even at lower levels. How can anyone ever forget the Shiv Sena? “ Only Maharashtrians can stay in Maharashtra !” . Doesn’t the Indian Constitution state that any Indian has the right to stay anywhere in India , except of course Kashmir & in defense establishments ?
Besides isn’t it the party solely responsible for ruining Mumbai , don’t believe me ,read Suketu Mehta’s “ Maximum City “ .

Politicians run around dismayed over the west’s bad influence over Gen Next . I am pretty sure we are gazillion times better than our “leaders”!

Well I have been doing all this verbal bashing I would like to jot down our Government’s achievements in the past decade

Well Ashwith,Vimal & I(AVA) really slogged our butts out for our performance, but the final one was at best , dissapointing .

Many errors/problems led to this dissapointment .
First off all,as usual the NCS sound system really let us down. The amplifier sound level was more than what we wanted it to be , hence my Leads were a trifle bit to loud. Then came the Devil disguised as Ankita Chaterjee, who as usual had to come & do something to ruin everyhting. Well apparently she came to adjust the mic since the teachers couldn't hear us , that was fine , but even after the proper adjustment was carried out , she kept on fiddling with which really pissed us off and completely ruined our concentration hence our co-ordination went hay-wire. persnally I was in half a mind to sue her for NUISANCE.
Somehow people still liked it !?!

Investiture' Controversies

The recent revealing of the elected prefects has resulted in a major hue & cry.
The last two periods of today were wrapped in subtle annoyance over the Board's irresponsible & rather foolish decisions.
Many a average Jones & Janes were very upset over the choice of "(S)ELECTED " prefects.
We even had a contigent ( headed by the new head boy) go to the principal in an attempt to oust Mr. Chikara from his auxillary post of cultural captain .
The result however though not very good was none the less worhtwile . Somehow my wish was granted & Pooja was deinvested.
However things look gloomy for both the school & Trata house. With Shalini Jha ( a hardworking female , but I doubt her leadership qualities ) & Pandu being nominated as Head Girl & Trata House Captain respectively.

There are more stories to tell , but unfortunately I have not much time.

Well let me get away from the normaly "nerdish" stuff that I write .
Yes , I am going to write on the Most hotly talked about thing in our School,
"The story of Ravinder(a.k.a Pandu) & his MANIACAL OBSSESION with Madhulika.

Well though we know the pair will never match , the prospects are rather ,well , INTERESTING.
However the latest developments on Pandu's side potray his utter stupidity.
Not only does he make public his most private emotions , he goes & tells Viji Ma'am ( our maths teacher) that " All other girls are my sisters , but I L**E Madhulika .
Well after this he has revealed his problems to Meenakshi Ma'am too,who apparently was counselling him .
However we must remember that the person in bigtrouble is not Pandu but , poor ol' Madhulika(we pray for thy soul) , anyways let us hope that maters stay at this & do not agrevate furhter .
I shudder to think what would happen if Radha Ma'am comes to know about this , or worse the Principal.

A new picture of string theory

At one time, string theorists believed there were five distinct superstring theories: type I, types IIA and IIB, and the two heterotic string theories. The thinking was that out of these five candidate theories, only one was the actual correct Theory of Everything, and that theory was the theory whose low energy limit, with ten dimensions spacetime compactified down to four, matched the physics observed in our world today. The other theories would be nothing more than rejected string theories, mathematical constructs not blessed by Nature with existence. These theories are related by transformations that are called dualities. If two theories are related by a duality transformation, it means that the first theory can be transformed in some way so that it ends up looking just like the second theory. The two theories are then said to be dual to one another under that kind of transformation. These dualities link quantities that were also thought to be separate. Large and small distance scales, strong and weak coupling strengths -- these quantities have always marked very distinct limits of behavior of a physical system, in both classical field theory and quantum particle physics. But strings can obscure the difference between large and small, strong and weak, and this is how these five very different theories end up being related.

Large and small distance

The duality symmetry that obscures our ability to distinguish between large and small distance scales is called T-duality, and comes about from the compactification of extra space dimensions in a ten dimensional superstring theory. Suppose we're in ten spacetime dimensions, which means we have nine space and one time. Take one of those nine space dimensions and make it a circle of radius R, so that traveling in that direction for a distance L=2pR takes you around the circle and brings you back to where you started. A particle traveling around this circle will have a quantized momentum around the circle, and this will contribute to the total energy of the particle. But a string is very different, because in addition to traveling around the circle, the string can wrap around the circle. The number of times the string winds around the circle is called the winding number, and that is also quantized. Now the weird thing about string theory is that these momentum modes and the winding modes can be interchanged, as long as we also interchange the radius R of the circle with the quantity Lst2/R, where Lst is the string length. If R is very much smaller than the string length, then the quantity Lst2/R is going to be very large. So exchanging momentum and winding modes of the string exchanges a large distance scale with a small distance scale.

This type of duality is called T-duality. T-duality relates Type IIA superstring theory to Type IIB superstring theory. That means if we take Type IIA and Type IIB theory and compactify them both on a circle, then switching the momentum and winding modes, and switching the distance scale, changes one theory into the other! The same is also true for the two heterotic theories. So T-duality obscures the difference between large and small distances. What looks like a very large distance to a momentum mode of a string looks, looks to a winding mode of a string like a very small distance. This is very counter to how physics has always worked since the days of Kepler and Newton.

Strong and weak coupling

What is a coupling constant? This is some number that tells us how strong an interaction is. Newton's constant is the coupling constant for the gravitational force, for example. If Newton's constant were twice the size it is measured to be now, then we would feel twice as much gravitational force from the Earth, and the Earth would feel twice as much from the Moon and the Sun, and so on. A larger coupling constant means a stronger force, and a smaller coupling constant means a weaker force. Every force has a coupling constant. For electromagnetism, the coupling constant is proportional to the square of the electric charge. When physicists study the quantum behavior of electromagnetism, they can't solve the whole theory exactly, so they break it down to little pieces, and each little piece that they can solve has a different power of the coupling constant in front of it. At normal energies in electromagnetism, the coupling constant is small, and so the first few little pieces make a good approximation to the real answer. But if the coupling constant gets large, that method of calculation breaks down, and the little pieces become worthless as an approximation to the real physics. This also can happen in string theory. String theories have a coupling constant. But unlike in particle theories, the string coupling constant is not just a number, but depends on one of the oscillation modes of the string, called the dilaton. Exchanging the dilaton field with minus itself exchanges a very large coupling constant with a very small one. This symmetry is called S-duality. If two string theories are related by S-duality, then one theory with a strong coupling constant is the same as the other theory with weak coupling constant. Notice that the theory with strong coupling cannot be understood by means of expanding in a series, but the theory with weak coupling can. So if the two theories are related by S-duality, then we just need to understand the weak theory, and that is equivalent to understanding the strong theory. For a physicist, that is the proverbial two-for-one deal! Superstring theories related by S-duality are: Type I superstring theory with heterotic SO(32) superstring theory, and Type IIB theory with itself.

What does it mean?

T-duality is something unique to string physics. It's something particles cannot do, because a particle cannot get wrapped around a circle like a string. If string theory is a correct theory of Nature, then this implies that one some deep level, the separation between large vs. small distance scales in physics is not a fixed separation but a fluid one, dependent upon the type of probe we use to measure distance, and how we count the states of the probe. The same goes for S-duality, which teaches us that the strong coupling limit of one string theory can describe the weak coupling limit of a different string theory. This sounds like it goes against all traditional physics, but this is indeed a reasonable outcome for a quantum theory of gravity, because Einstein's theory of gravity tells us that gravity is about how the sizes of objects and magnitudes of interactions are measured in curved spacetime

HOW MANY STRING THEORIES ARE THERE?

There are several ways theorists can build string theories. Start with the elementary ingredient: a wiggling tiny string. Next decide: should it be an open string or a closed string? Then ask: will I settle for only bosons ( particles that transmit forces) or will I ask for fermions, too (particles that make up matter)? (Remember that in string theory, a particle is like a note played on the string.) If the answer to the last question is "Bosons only, please!" then one gets bosonic string theory. If the answer is "No, I demand that matter exist!" then we wind up needing supersymmetry, which means an equal matching between bosons (particles that transmit forces) and fermions (particles that make up matter). A supersymmetric string theory is called a superstring theory. There are five kinds of superstring theories, shown in the table below. The final question for making a string theory should be: can I do quantum mechanics sensibly? For bosonic strings, this question is only answered in the affirmative if the spacetime dimensions number 26. For superstrings we can whittle it down to 10. How we get down to the four spacetime dimensions we observe in our world is another story.

If we ask how to get from ten spacetime dimensions to four spacetime dimensions, then the number of string theories grows, because there are so many possible ways to make six dimensions much much smaller than the other four in string theory. This process of compactification of unwanted spacetime dimensions yields interesting physics on its own. But the number of string theories has also been shrinking in recent years, because string theorists are discovering that what they thought were completely different theories were in fact different ways of looking at the same theory! This period in string history has been given the name the second string revolution. And now the biggest rush in string research is to collapse the table above into one theory, which some people want to call M theory, for it is the Mother of all theories.

WHAT IS STRING THEORY?

BASICS
Think of a guitar string that has been tuned by stretching the string under tension across the guitar. Depending on how the string is plucked and how much tension is in the string, different musical notes will be created by the string. These musical notes could be said to be excitation modes of that guitar string under tension. In a similar manner, in string theory, the elementary particles we observe in particle accelerators could be thought of as the "musical notes" or excitation modes of elementary strings. In string theory, as in guitar playing, the string must be stretched under tension in order to become excited. However, the strings in string theory are floating in spacetime, they aren't tied down to a guitar. Nonetheless, they have tension. The string tension in string theory is denoted by the quantity 1/(2 p a'), where a' is pronounced "alpha prime"and is equal to the square of the string length scale. If string theory is to be a theory of quantum gravity, then the average size of a string should be somewhere near the length scale of quantum gravity, called the Planck length, which is about 10-33 centimeters, or about a millionth of a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a centimeter. Unfortunately, this means that strings are way too small to see by current or expected particle physics technology (or financing!!) and so string theorists must devise more clever methods to test the theory than just looking for little strings in particle experiments.

String theories are classified according to whether or not the strings are required to be closed loops, and whether or not the particle spectrum includes fermions. In order to include fermions in string theory, there must be a special kind of symmetry called supersymmetry, which means for every boson (particle that transmits a force) there is a corresponding fermion (particle that makes up matter). So supersymmetry relates the particles that transmit forces to the particles that make up matter. Supersymmetric partners to to currently known particles have not been observed in particle experiments, but theorists believe this is because supersymmetric particles are too massive to be detected at current accelerators. Particle accelerators could be on the verge of finding evidence for high energy supersymmetry in the next decade. Evidence for supersymmetry at high energy would be compelling evidence that string theory was a good mathematical model for Nature at the smallest distance scales.

THE HINDENBURG CRASH

It's been 68 years since the Hindenburg crashed.

At 1921 hrs on 6th may 1937 the mighty Hindenburg came to a catastrophic end, THE REASON:
When the Hindenburg was preparing to land , the handling ropes were let down. Exposed to the rain, the landing ropes were wet, hence were able to conduct current.In this condition, the wet ropes formed a conducting path between the framework and the ground, hence equalizing the Electric potential V of the frame & the ground.

This should have however grounded the metalframe and also the outer fabric.

Unfortunately for the Hindenburg, it was the first airship whose outer fabric had been painted with a sealant of high electrical resistivity.

Hence,

Due to the rain storm,

The handling of the ropes caused the rupturing of 1 of the 16 highly inflammable Hydrogen Cells,
relaeasing hydrogen between the cell & the plane's fabric, also causing the reported rippling of the external fabric.

THE FABRIC WAS WET DUE TO THE CONDUCTION OF RAIN WATER.HENCE ALSO HAD A POTENTIAL WHICH WAS NOT EQUAL TO THE GROUND'S POTENTIAL.
DUE TO THE CHARGES FLOWED FROM THE WET FABRIC, CREATING A SPARK, WHICH PASSED THROUGH THE RELEASED HYDROGEN, IGNITING IT.

THE FIRE IMMIDEATELY IGNITED THE OTHER HYDROGEN CELLS IN QUICK SUCCESSION.

THE MIGHTY HINDENBURG WENT DOWN IN UNDER 32 SECONDS.

THE MAIN CAUSE OF "THE HINDENBURG DISASTER" WAS THE SEALANT
